November 16, 2015 - Getaround, the peer-to-peer car sharing community, has been selected as one of the Top 10 Automotive Startups by the LA Autoshow’s Connected Car Expo (CCE).
According to the CCE, their Advisory Board selected Getaround because of its “potential to shape the future of the new automotive industry and make cars safer, more accessible and more exciting.” In addition, the “Top 10 are considered true standouts among an increasingly crowded field of technology companies emerging in the automotive space.”
At this week’s event, Getaround will showcase its latest hardware technology, the Getaround Connect™. This patented hardware, designed specifically for peer-to-peer carsharing, is the driving factor behind the company’s rapid growth, with 10s of millions of dollars in revenue and expansion into new markets. Not only does Connect™ allow renters to find and unlock any shared car right from their mobile phone, it also provides car owners with the much needed safety features to confidently share their cars with strangers.
Designed and built in-house by the Getaround team, Connect™ captures real-time GPS data, trip information and driving behavior. It also features cellular data, remote diagnostics, and the latest WiFi and Bluetooth LE technologies. In addition, the device includes built-in security features such as real-time safety notifications, ignition immobilization, and auto-lock.
Looking forward, Getaround has plans to release an API for the device, allowing car enthusiasts and third party apps to integrate and contribute to the Getaround platform.
