Garmin® Brings Infotainment Opportunities and Premium Car Navigation Solutions to the Connected Car Expo

OLATHE, Kan./November 12, 2015 – Garmin International Inc., a unit of Garmin Ltd., is presenting its latest technological advancements at the Los Angeles Auto Show Connected Car Expo (CCE). The show will serve as a platform for Garmin to showcase its vision and direction in the automotive industry with current products, concept navigation systems and upcoming infotainment units, including Gemini, an all-new navigation core designed for Automotive OEM products. Garmin will also demonstrate its latest Integrated Driving Recorder (IDVR) as part of the company’s Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS) technology. These products and more will be on display at the Garmin booth #408 at the Connected Car Expo from November 17-19.

“This year at CCE we will demo a new version of Gemini, our next-generation navigation,” said Kip Dondlinger, Garmin automotive OEM manager of product and user experience. “The market for factory-installed driving recorders and camera-based ADAS is starting to gain momentum. We’ll show what Garmin is doing in that market, as well as some of our latest infotainment solutions for the APAC market.”

Gemini is equipped to be significantly swifter and more customizable than any navigation software available. Built with sophisticated graphics and a fluid 30-frames-per-second map-drawing rate, Gemini is designed to provide navigation and infotainment solutions for virtually any OEM. An enhanced route calculation system allows Gemini to work rapidly while providing efficient POI search solutions that use error tolerance to automatically correct misspellings and typos. A notable attribute in Gemini’s feature set is its flexible map update capacity. In addition to full map updates, Gemini can deliver partial and incremental map updates that shrink the amount of information that needs to be loaded in the system. In turn, the smaller map updates allow map transfers over Wi-Fi®, smartphones, or embedded modems in a vehicle.

Also on display is Allishan, an Android™ OS head unit designed by Garmin for Toyota in Asia-Pacific and Middle Eastern markets. Equipped with the latest Garmin navigation core and an enhanced 3D model, the unit has an 8-inch capacitive touchscreen that includes Wi-Fi connectivity to smartphones and tablets that support rear-seat entertainment. The addition of Miracast® connectivity allows for video streaming to and from the head unit. Garmin has also developed a Bluetooth® remote control smartphone application that offers full wireless control of the head unit. The Allishan infotainment system supports CD, DVD, HDMI, and USB connectivity.

For more than 25 years, Garmin has pioneered new GPS navigation and wireless devices and applications that are designed for people who live an active lifestyle. Garmin serves five primary business units, including automotive, aviation, fitness, marine and outdoor recreation.
